About us

Working with children over the last decade, I witnessed a recurring problem: many children, of all backgrounds, struggle with anxiety or confidence issues making it hard for them to believe in themselves. Children of today are being brought up in a different world to us — a world where they feel the stresses of social media, screen addiction, exam pressure, bullying, climate change, a pandemic, and where adults have less time and are stressed themselves.

Since practicing meditation in early 2012, I have made it part of my life. While living in the Himalayas, I was first introduced to the ability to calm the mind and the bliss that is available to us all. In 2017, I became a fully qualified Teach First primary teacher, even though my main responsibility was to ensure academic progress, my main passion was to try to help children navigate the stresses of their lives.

At 28, I was diagnosed with cancer. I went back to a meditation retreat to find stillness and here I gathered strength and felt joy. After practicing, I was so much more able to process my circumstances. Meditation changed my perspective on life. I realised how different my life could have been if I had been taught this at a younger age.

In September 2021, I started studying an MA in Neuroscience & Psychology at King's College London. Learning that we can change our neural pathways convinced me to pursue a career to improve children's lives by teaching them how they can sculpt their brains for happier lives.

Drawing on my experience as a teacher, I decided to combine my knowledge and teach children meditation. I'm determined that it must be engaging and fun, far from the traditional monk-like approach. The philosophy behind Kalmer Kids is to teach children a form of meditation practice they love and want to incorporate in their daily lives.
